U.S.-China Natural Gas Coalition

Mission
The mission of the US-China Natural Gas Coalition is to promote the efficient use of natural gas in China as a bridge from a predominantly coal based energy infrastructure to a clean natural gas and Hydrogen based energy infrastructure and to promote US natural gas and Hydrogen technology. Currently we are working on removing the significant policy, institutional and technical barriers to distributed generation and combined cooling, heating and power systems. We are doing this by organizing US experts and industry representatives to conduct workshops on the issues and to work with the Chinese to develop workable solutions. The overall objective is to promote several demonstration projects in conjunction with the Olympics.

We Need YOUR Help!

ICSD is looking for experts and sponsors to help us with this Coalition. Company logos and credits will be included prominently at all events and on this website. Contact us to find out more.

Opportunity

The transition from coal to natural gas is a high priority for China and an important part of the US-China cooperation on the Olympics. With the new gas pipeline, natural gas consumption will increase from 1.8 million cubic meters last year to 5.8 million cubic meters annually by 2007 in Beijing. Most of this growth will be in industrial applications, heating buildings, and power generation. The current focus of our efforts is on assisting Beijing in the development of combined cooling, heating, and power systems (CCHP) for district and building integrated applications. These systems represent some of the most efficient uses of natural gas and have significant advantages to improving the electric grid in Beijing.

Beijing Gas Group, the gas utility in Beijing is very interested in developing DG gas applications and they have formed a subsidiary corporation, Beijing Energy Net, to develop DG projects. We are working very closely with Beijing Energy Net in several areas including interconnection policy, gas electric pricing policy, codes and standards, and technology applications through the US/China Natural Gas Coalition. The newly formed US/China Natural Gas Coalition has been working to identify key barriers (i.e., market, technological, economical, institutional and regulatory barriers) to natural gas utilization in China, as well as assisting in the implementation of natural gas projects in Beijing. US/China Natural Gas Coalition includes technology experts, gas companies, manufactures, and equipment vendors and others who will work with the Chinese team.
